Improving Training Dataset Balance with ChatGPT Prompt Engineering

We explore how prompt engineering with GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 can be used to generate synthetic data that balances uneven datasets—an all-too-common issue in real-world machine learning. Among the strategies tested, similarity-based prompting showed the most promise. Our findings open up practical pathways for using large language models to enhance traditional ML workflows.
